This festival usually comes on same day that is on 14^th of January every year.

Significance of Makar Sankranti

This festival is being celebrated differently. For farmers it being the harvesting season as they yield the reward for all their hard work.

Religious Significance
This day is considered to be the most auspicious day for the hindus across the globe as on this day doing good work is said to fetch good rewards and ones soul gets chance to surrender oneself to the supreme thee. On this day the sun moves from south that from its opposite direction towards its original direction that towards north (uttarayana). On this the sun god is worshiped as the sun being the epicenter of all the energies and the necessary element for sustaining the life on this mother earth.

On this day the sun has visited his son’s home shani and thus putting the end to hatred that both the duo had for so many years. This day is also being celebrated as the forgiveness day when one forgets all his hatred & sour feelings towards any one and once again takes part in their joys & sorrows. Thus this day teaches us to leave hatred\ill feelings towards each other as it fetches nothing but just mental agony & disturbances. It teaches us the big lesson of love & peace and spreading the same among the masses.

On this day their is special significance of taking the holy dip in  river ganges (the most sacred river of hindus) as it is said that by taking the holy dip in this pious river one’s  whole sins are vanished  and one attains the salvation and  he/she finds  space  under the lotus feet of supreme thee.

Also it should be noted that it is only Santan Dharma(The Universal Religion) the religion which Hindus follow which believes in peace, harmony and well being of all. So we should feel proud of being a Hindu.
